Hello All!
My name is Annika Baker, I am a performer and theatre-maker currently based in Central Iowa!
I am dedicated to celebrating the humanity in storytelling, and the storytelling in humanity. I believe theatre exists to create, examine, and explore the bonds between people, our surroundings, and the larger workings of the universe.
I find theatrical structure fascinating, variable, and ultimately optional, although each of these facets make it all the more rewarding to work with and through. I relish script analysis and table work. I strive to be a multi-faceted performer, collaborator, and human being. I adore diving into the nuts and bolts of the text and, often more importantly, the context.
In terms of specializations, I am trained in MT and classical voice, Ballet, Tap, and Jazz, and Period Acting Styles (Greek, Shakespeare, Restoration plays). I particularly enjoy genre shifts because I am able to dig into the minutiae of what makes each one operate.
Ultimately, I am driven by opportunities to learn, to develop new skills or old ones, and to understand; while the brunt of my experience is performance, I am just as fascinated by the backstage tracks, and am always eager to learn. Story is one of the most fundamental and intrinsic parts of humanity, and it is my greatest joy to share and recognize.
